Vineyard Compassion Ministries

Mission originates in the heart of God.  God is the calling and sending God. The mission we are invited to participate in is the Missio Dei – God’s mission.  Traditionally, mission in Vineyard circles has been understood to mean “church planting”.  Church plants are indeed part of our DNA and a primary way of doing mission however it is not the only way.

Mission is any way in which we bring the “good news” to people.  When we look at a group of people, a town, a community, a whole nation and ask – what is good news to these people and we allow ourselves to see their needs and heart cries, then true mission is born.

Vineyard Compassion Ministries bring the heart of God to people to reconcile people to Him.   If the gospel truly is good news to all people in all nations in all circumstances then it will look like many things – loaves of bread, employment initiatives, vaccinations for babies, HIV/AIDS prevention, voices against child slavery, shelter for orphans, repairing broken walls and restoring streets with dwellings.

Kritzinger puts it well:   Just as the Father sent the Son into the world, and as the Father and the Son together send the Holy Spirit, so Father, Son and Holy Spirit send the church into the world (1994:41).
